Kittens: Our little guys are like babies, Likewise, their immune systems are in an early developmental stage and are not ready to fight off disease. Lucky for them their mother has passed on disease-fighting antibodies. The problem is these same maternal antibodies interfere with vaccinations. That is why we need to give a series of vaccinations to our kittens. As the mother's antibodies in the kitten drop off, the antibodies stimulated by vaccines take over to protect the kitten against disease. By the time the initial series of vaccinations is complete, all you'll have to worry about is what mischief your kitten will get into next. Adult Cats: Once protection has been established in a cat, booster vaccinations are recommended to maintain maximum protection against diseases. For most vaccines, boosters are administered annually. Annual Veterinarian Visits: Vaccinations are certainly an important reasons to visit you veterinarian each year, but they are not the only reason. Routine physical check-ups are essential in evaluating and maintain your cat's long-term health & well-being. Your Role: Even with an effective vaccinating program, your cat can not be protected against every infectious disease. Common sense strategies on your part are required.
